The Hydrographic Brigade of Shanghai Maritime Safety Administration (abr. Shanghai MSA) as a professional unit for prospecting and designing the channels of costal harbors has charge of the management of surveying and mapping as well as editing the maps of the ports and channels (including charts of detection and navigation) in the coastal harbors of the East China. In the meantime, Shanghai brigade is also authorized to carry out the same works such as surveying, sounding and hydrological observation in ports and coastal ports, channels and at anchorages in other areas of the country and in other countries.
The brigade possesses with sophisticated positioning systems, souder scanning systems, submarine geological investigation systems and hydrological telemetry systems, etc, thus realizing the automation of its operations and ranking itself advanced in this field in the country.
Shanghai brigade has totally 400 employees, including more than 300 technicians and engineers. Its standard administration and top-notch services provide the security guarantee to maritime navigation. Every year, it undertakes the surveying, designing and consultation for dozens of the governmental and local major projects.
